'Mo was selected as an interim head coach during the 1977 season after replacing fired Forrest Gregg. Gregg had gone a disappointing 6-7 that year, and the players were not responding to his drill-instructor style of teaching. In 'Mo's only game, the Browns lost a heartbreaker to Seattle, 20-19. Even though 'Mo was given the interim job, he was not considered for the full time position. That is why he retired, in protest.
